Garage clear-out checklist: clear your garage in a weekend
A garage you cannot park in is one of the most common jobs we see in outer London and the towns around it. With a plan, most garages can be cleared in a weekend.
Before you start
- Pick a dry weekend and book the collection for the end of day two.
- Get gloves, strong bags, a marker pen and some boxes.
- Clear space on the driveway to sort things into piles.
Day one: empty and sort
Take everything out and sort it into four piles:
- Keep: things you have used in the last year or two.
- Sell or donate: working tools, bikes and furniture in good condition.
- Recycle: cardboard, scrap metal and anything your council collects.
- Remove: broken furniture, old carpets, boxes of clutter and anything else that needs to go.
Hazardous items need a different route
Paint, oil, solvents, pesticides, car batteries and gas bottles cannot go in a normal junk collection. Most council household waste sites accept many of these, so set them aside and check your council's website. We can take sealed paint tins by arrangement only.
Day two: clean and collect
Sweep out, put back what you are keeping (shelves and wall hooks help), and leave the remove pile ready on the driveway or in the garage for collection.
How big is a garage load?
A cluttered single garage is often between a half van (from £252) and a full van (from £432), including VAT. Old fridges, freezers and gym equipment are priced as extras. If you are not sure, send us a photo.
We clear garages across Bromley, Sutton, Harrow, Havering, St Albans, Epsom and more.
Quick price: price a half-van garage clearance.
